Professional Statement

Hylton R. Mayer, MD, Assistant Professor and Associate Attending Physician in the Glaucoma Service, completed his MD at the Medical College of Ohio, in Toledo, in 2002; his Internship at the Hospital of St. Raphael, in New Haven, in 2003; and his Residency in Ophthalmology at the Yale New Haven Medical Center in 2006. Dr. Mayer finished a Glaucoma Fellowship in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale from 2006 to 2007 under the direction of Dr. James C. Tsai and M. Bruce Shields. Dr. Mayer is Yale's Director of Cataract Surgery, Glaucoma Fellowship Director, Director of Glaucoma Screenings, and Assistant Director of Ophthalmologic Medical Studies. He is active in the clinical and surgical education of medical students and residents. Dr. Mayer is actively pursuing innovative technologies for the safe and effective medical and surgical treatment of cataracts and glaucoma.

He is currently active member of American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the Connecticut Glaucoma Society, and American Medical Association. Dr. Mayer's clinical interests are in the management of complex cataracts and glaucoma. His research interests include ocular public health issues and anti-VEGF agents and glaucoma.
